Remote Access Trojan Definition

A remote access trojan, or RAT, is malware that enables remote control over a victim’s computer. RAT allows attackers to completely control a computer as if they were sitting in front of it. Furthermore, RAT enables attackers to steal data, disrupt operations, and install more malware. There are several ways in which a system may be infected with a remote access trojan, and they include the following:

  • Exploit kits
  • Phishing emails
  • Malware-infected websites
