MFA Push Notification
MFA Push Notification, or in long-form, Multi-Factor Authentication Push Notification, is a security feature used to enhance the security of online accounts and the protection of sensitive information. In other words, it’s an additional layer of security beyond the traditional username and password combination – which is becoming increasingly easier for cybercriminals to exploit.
When you log in to a service or application that requires an MFA Push Notification to sign in, after entering your username and password, you will receive a real-time notification on your mobile device, most times through a dedicated app such as Okta. This notification asks you to approve or deny the login attempt.
To get more granular, the process works like this: once you enter your credentials on the login page, the service will send a push notification to your registered mobile device. If it is indeed you trying to log in, you can simply tap the “approve” button on your phone, and the authentication process is completed. This way, the login is verified using something you have (your mobile device) in addition to something you know (your username and password). It adds an extra layer of security because even if someone else somehow gets hold of your password, they would still need access to your mobile device to approve the login.
MFA Push Notification is a user-friendly and convenient method of multi-factor authentication (MFA). It provides a quick and secure way to verify your identity without the need to enter lengthy codes or passwords. This additional security measure helps protect your accounts from unauthorized access and keeps your sensitive data safe from potential threats. Many online services, banking apps, and popular websites offer MFA Push Notification as an option to fortify the security of their users’ accounts.
